Totally Awesome Homemade Pet Treat Recipes
With all the food and treat recalls, and the reasonable fears over ingredients sourced from China (and who knows where else), we’ve tested out some homemade dog treats that are sure to please any dog and are easy on the wallet.
Turkey Apple Treats
Ingredients:
1 egg
1LB ground turkey
¼ cup shredded cheese
½ cup chopped apple
1 teaspoon chopped parsley
Preparation: Preheat oven to 350F Mix all ingredients. Shape mixture into bite-size balls. Bake for 10 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool and store in refrigerator or freezer until ready to treat.
Cheeseburger Bites
Ingredients:
1 egg
1LB lean ground beef
¼ cup of grated or shredded cheese
Preparation: Preheat oven to 350F. Mix all ingredients. Shape mixture into bite-size balls. Bake for 10 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool and store in refrigerator or freezer until ready to treat.
Turkey or Beef Potato Balls
Ingredients:
1 egg
1 to 2 tablespoons mashed potatoes
½ cup minced cooked turkey or lean ground beef
¼ cup grated cheese
½ cup peas
Preparation: Preheat oven to 350F. Mix all ingredients. Shape mixture into bite-size balls. Bake for 10 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool and store in refrigerator or freezer until ready to treat.
Chicken or Liver Potato cubes
Ingredients:
1LB fresh chicken or liver
1 egg
1 ¼ cups potato flakes
Beef or chicken broth (low sodium)
Preparation:
Food processor
Greased 13 x 9 pan
Preheat oven to 400F. Cut chicken or liver into 1-inch pieces or smaller. Put all ingredients into a food processor and pulse 15 seconds, add a little broth and continue to pulse while adding very small amounts of broth until the mixture is a very thick spreading consistency. Spread mixture into prepared pan and bake 25 minutes Cool for 5 minutes on a cooling rack. Then run a knife around sides of pan and turn over to release. Cool and slice, refrigerate or freeze until ready to treat.
Liver or Beef Strips
Ingredients:
Fresh Beef liver or lean beef
Preparation: Preheat oven to 325F. Spray non -stick spray on a cookie sheet or lightly grease. Cut liver or lean beef into 1-inch slices. Place liver or beef slices on a baking sheet. Bake for 45 minutes to an hour. Cool and refrigerate or freeze until ready to treat!
